Refillable Shampoo Bottles from P&G Beauty

Procter & Gamble has announced the introduction of a system of reusable and refillable aluminum bottles for Head & Shoulders, Pantene Pro-V, Herbal Essences and Aussie in Europe. This is expected to save 300 million bottles of new plastic every year.

P&G Beauty is launching a packaging innovation for its hair care brands. It is intended to promote the recycling economy – and change the way shampoo bottles are bought, used and disposed of. From 2021, the brands Head & Shoulders, Pantene Pro-V, Herbal Essences and Aussie will use the packaging solution. The refill system for shampoo consists of a new, reusable bottle made of 100 percent aluminum and a recyclable refill bag. Compared to the standard shampoo bottle, it uses 60 percent less plastic, according to P&G Beauty.

300 million fewer bottles made from new plastic

The company is well on the way to reducing the use of new plastic in shampoo and conditioner bottles by 50 percent by the end of 2021 compared to 2016. At the same time, P&G Beauty will make all its shampoo and conditioner bottles fully recyclable. The measures should lead to a total annual saving of 300 million new plastic bottles in Europe.

„I am pleased to announce a new packaging innovation called ‚good refill system‘ that will allow our consumers to use a beautiful, reusable aluminum bottle and refill pouches as of 2021,“ said Artur Litarowicz, Senior Vice President and General Manager P&G Europe Haircare. „We know this is just the start. There is so much more to do, and I am passionate about P&G Beauty being a force for a positive change throughout Europe.”
