International Packaging Competition Goes Into New Round
Following the conclusion of the WorldStar awards ceremony held during IpackIma in Milan, the World Packaging Organization (WPO) is launching the competition for WorldStar 2023. The deadline for applications is October 20, 2022.
“We encourage every WPO member around the world to help us promote the largest and most prestigious global packaging award. By sponsoring WorldStar, each member promotes the best packaging in their own country, worldwide, which is an incredible contribution to the sustainable and continuous development of the packaging industry. Last year, WorldStar 2022 set a record with 440 entries from 37 countries,” said Pierre Pienaar, president of the World Packaging Organization. This year, the WPO has introduced two new main categories, gift packaging and digital packaging, as well as a new special category, accessible packaging.
The World Packaging Organisation (WPO) is a non-profit, non-governmental, international association of packaging institutes, associations and other interested parties, including companies and trade associations. Its mission is “Improving the quality of life through better packaging for more people.” The WPO has 76 members from around the world.
Luciana Pellegrino, senior vice president of marketing at the WPO, says, “The WorldStar Packaging Awards reflect the importance of packaging innovation on a global scale, promoting science, technology, and innovation, recognizing and encouraging packaging professionals to go beyond, and engaging brands, packaging companies, and design firms for greater opportunities.”
Packaging eligible for WorldStar Awards are those that have already received a national or regional packaging award from a WPO-recognized packaging competition in the past two years, such as the German Packaging Award presented during FACHPACK. October 20, 2022, is the deadline for entries to the competition, the WPO explains. In May 2023, the awards ceremony will take place during Interpack in Düsseldorf.
