McDonald’s customers test alternative packaging

Reusable instead of disposable, grass paper instead of cartons, or ketchup in waffle cones – for ten days McDonald’s Deutschland is experimenting in the “Better M Store” and testing which sustainable packaging solutions make sense in system catering.

From 17-26 June 2019, customers eating at the McDonald’s Restaurant in the Mall of Berlin can test the alternative packaging and give feedback directly via a survey tool. “New solutions for disposable packaging mean first and foremost a change not only for companies but also for consumers. That’s why we want to use this experiment to find out what’s possible and where we might have to go in further development. Because an innovative solution will only work if it is equally suited to our operational processes in the restaurant, to hygienic requirements, and – naturally – to our customers’ taste,” says Heike Bierweiler, Director Supply Chain at McDonald’s Germany.

The survey on sustainable packaging solutions will also be extended to the social media channels of McDonald’s Deutschland so that users on the Internet can participate in the discussion. In addition, there are sessions at the restaurant for detailed discussions with experts during the ten days of the experiment.
