Packaging Industry Meets in Nuremberg
“Transition in Packaging” is the main theme of this year’s FACHPACK, which will be held in Nuremberg from September 27 to 29, 2022. The main features of the forum program have already been finalized, and preparations are in full swing.
According to FACHPACK Director Phillip Blass, NürnbergMesse currently expects more than 1,000 exhibitors to present themselves in nine exhibition halls along the focal points of packaging, technology, and processes in September. For the first time, POWTECH, the leading international trade fair for powder, granulate, and bulk solids technology, will also be held at the same time. However, visitors can also expect a large supporting program with specialist lectures and forums, which will be held under the new guiding theme of “Transition in Packaging”. With this theme, the trade show is focusing on the upheavals in the packaging industry this year.
Sustainability, digitalization, and e-commerce are the most important trends and drivers that will be discussed at the booths as well as in the forums and special shows at FACHPACK 2022, followed by the current tasks in procurement, supply chain, or the changing behavior of consumers.
To this end, different focus topics will be illustrated in both the PACKBOX and TECHBOX forums. On the first day of the event (Tuesday), the PACKBOX will focus on market experiences and market expectations for packaging under the constantly changing framework conditions. Renowned consulting companies from the industry and market researchers will be presenting their latest studies, findings, and solution ideas.
The future of packaging in its function as a digital transmitter for marketing and at the same time as an essential contribution to resource conservation and optimization of the circular economy will also be the subject of an event.
PACKBOX Wednesday will focus on materials and design under the premise of sustainability. Here, the main focus will be on the central future challenges of the material associations and the competition of new concepts in paper and cardboard, wood, plastics, as well as metal. The topics will be complemented by best practices and insights from innovative designers and brands that are either already successfully shaping the change or pointing to new visions. As the leading European cooperation of creative experts, the European Packaging Design Association (epda), for example, will also be devoting specialist presentations to the focus topic.
Another item on the PACKBOX program is, for example, “Digitization and Automation – What Does This Mean for Packaging Printing?”. Speakers include experts from Procter & Gamble, GMG Color, and HdM Stuttgart (Stuttgart Media University).
The theme worlds in the TECHBOX represent the areas of “Innovation and Climate Strategy” and “Efficiency and Digitalization”. Specifically, the focus will be on AutoID technologies as enabling technologies in this area. For example, an expert will be talking about the sensor system of the future on Thursday.
Sustainability is also considered an important control mechanism for assessing the future viability of new processes and business models. After all, technological developments should enable companies to achieve their sustainability goals as well as ensure their business success. On the first day of the trade fair, visitors to the PACKBOX forum will be able to see current examples of how a “consumer brand can become an attitude brand”. TECHBOX is also about innovations from the “technical” packaging world: from robotics to packaging machines to logistics.
New Work as a Challenge
A persistent shortage of skilled workers, new working models, and a dramatically changing working world are general conditions that do not stop at the packaging industry. New thinking is required at many levels. For this reason, an entire theme day (Wednesday) will be devoted to the topic of “Future Working Worlds”.
The focus will be on new models and concepts as solutions to the challenges of changing working worlds. The presenters all have a strong practical orientation. Exemplary are new entrepreneurial and HR initiatives from Packaging Valley and also the expertise of leading HR service providers as well as statements by further education institutions and universities.
FACHPACK 2022 is all about new beginnings and solutions to the challenges of the future. Under the premise: “from practice, for practice”, many small and larger examples of these transitions will be presented and discussed. Both at the many exhibition stands and in the impulse-giving accompanying forums.
FACHPACK’s highlights also include the festive award ceremony for the German Packaging Award. The presentation of the winning packaging and its developers by the German Packaging Institute is proof of the diversity and innovative strength of the industry.
