Sealed instead of Just Wrapped Up

With FreshPack, Alpma has launched a new solution for packaging butter. The Molkerei Weihenstephan has already been convinced by the packaging. And refers not only to product protection but also to a fresher taste.

The conventional, envelope-like wrapping packaging for butter is a classic. But it has weaknesses: it is not sealed and regularly gives consumers greasy fingers. “We have heard time and again from our customers that they are looking for alternative packaging,” describes Franz Glas, business unit manager for cutting and packaging technology at the dairy technology specialist Alpma, the starting position.

Avoid oxygen exchange

The new solution, which is patented and already used by the Molkerei Weihenstephan, is called FreshPack. An all-round seal provides protection against manipulation. In addition, the seal protects the butter from oxygen exchange.” As a result, the aroma is retained much better in the product,” emphasizes Glas. “When you open the packaging, you have a fragrance experience. You can smell and taste that the butter is fresher.”

“Thanks to the new packaging, our Weihenstephan butter is significantly better protected than conventional butter until it is first opened,” confirms Benedikt Köck, Head of Marketing at Weihenstephan. The seal not only guarantees special protection, it also preserves the fresh taste of the butter. “Two tabs allow the seal to be applied cleanly. This means our consumers have a first opening guarantee and, thanks to the flaps, no more greasy fingers when unpacking and repacking.”
