FACHPACK and POWTECH as Melting Points for New Ideas

Good mood at the FACHPACK: The exhibition organizers drew up an interim balance on Wednesday and expressed their satisfaction to journalists with the course of the two exhibitions FACHPACK and POWTECH, which are being held in parallel at the Nuremberg Exhibition Center for the first time.

Because the pandemic had upset the event calendar of many companies and the POWTECH exhibition, there is a new cooperation: FACHPACK and POWTECH are being held simultaneously in Nuremberg for the first time. A virtue has been made of necessity, explained Marketing Director Katja Feeß at a press event on Wednesday. The cooperation is going well, and due to the more international audience at POWTECH, there are also more visitors from abroad at FACHPACK, said Heike Slotta, Executive Director, NürnbergMesse. A total of more than 1,600 exhibitors are currently in Nürnberg, 1,145 of them at FACHPACK. Those who have an admission ticket can visit both exhibitions.

“Transition in Packaging” is the theme of FACHPACK 2022, describing the current transformation in the European packaging industry – and it is being felt even more strongly now than last year, he said. “Sustainability and digitalization have picked up speed at an accelerated pace,” Slotta said. “The trade shows are melting points for new ideas.” However, Slotta said, there is also no getting away from the fact that “things are not looking particularly rosy at the moment, given the pandemic, the war and the energy crisis.” The political and economic environment is also changing, she added. “But that’s precisely why we’re discussing how to manage change.” The trade show, she said, is a place where experts from the corporate world can exchange ideas and talk in person about change, “to shape it.”

There is still so much to see”

“It’s half-time. And there is still so much to see,” said Phillip Blass, director of FACHPACK. He was also pleased with the progress of the lecture program so far in the three forums, Packbox, Techbox and Innovationsbox. The forums have always been well attended. FACHPACK visitors stay at the show for a day and a half on average, he reported. The digital extension myFACHPACK, which was newly introduced last year, indirectly gives visitors more trade show time: it allows visitors to access the lecture program until the end of the year.

FACHPACK provides a compact yet comprehensive overview of the range of products and services covering the packaging process chain for industrial and consumer goods, i.e. packaging, the associated technology and the accompanying processes. It occupies nine exhibition halls. 42 percent of the 1,145 exhibitors travel to Nuremberg from abroad, above all from Turkey, Italy, Austria, the Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, Belgium, the Czech Republic and France.

Will exhibitions stay together permanently?

POWTECH 2022 – Europe’s leading exhibition for mechanical processing technology – also has many exhibitors from the USA, Great Britain and Spain. The Asian partners could not travel to Nuremberg due to the pandemic. POWTECH is starting this year with a new event management. Marianny Eisenhofer is the new girl at POWTECH and takes over the event management in the team of Executive Director Exhibitions, Heike Slotta, who continues to have overall responsibility. Eisenhofer was previously in charge of the watch and jewelry trade fair Inhorgenta in Munich for many years, including in the area of technology.

Whether the two trade shows will always or every now and then be held together in the future is currently open. That “is left up to the market,” said Slotta. According to the regular schedule, POWTECH will take place in 2023 and FACHPACK in 2024.
