Winners of the Plastics Recycling Awards Europe

The firms Interseroh and Erema are winners of the Plastics Recycling Awards Europe 2019. At the awards ceremony during the Plastics Recycling Show Europe in Amsterdam, the environmental service provider and the technology manufacturer were presented with the coveted award for the Corema cascade extrusion system in the “Recycling Machinery Innovation of the Year” category.

Corema makes it possible for the first time to produce customised recycling compounds for high-quality applications in just one process step. In its combination, the innovative technology was developed especially to meet the requirements of Interseroh. “We are delighted to receive this award in the category ‘Recycling Machinery Innovation of the Year’, say Dr. Manica Ulcnik-Krump, Head of the Recycled Resource Business Unit at Interseroh Dienstleistungs GmbH, and Michael Heitzinger, Managing Director of Erema GmbH.

Interseroh, which belongs to the Alba Group, has already been working for years on developing high-quality plastic recyclates for various market requirements through mechanical recycling of polyolefins. The use of the new Corema system now significantly shortens the production process for recompounds. A “one-extrusion process” enables formulations tailored precisely to customer requirements to be produced in just one step, instead of the two steps previously required.  Additives, modifiers and inorganic bulking substances are added directly in the production process in proportions of 0.25 to 40 percent. Quality control of the material rheology and color stability is carried out digitally and in real time here. This enables Interseroh to manufacture individual recompounds for particularly high-quality applications. In addition, the one-extrusion process reduces both energy and resource consumption. Even in the production of complicated formulations, the new process saves up to 50 percent of greenhouse gas emissions compared with the use of new granulate from crude oil.

The Plastics Recycling Show Europe was launched as the first trade exhibition for plastics recycling on the European continent and is open to all interested parties. On the occasion of this conference, the Plastics Recycling Awards Europe recognise achievements in the European plastics recycling industry and offer insights into current developments in recycling, product design and innovative manufacturing.
