German Packaging Prize awarded
The German Packaging Institute (dvi) hosted the award ceremony for the German Packaging Award 2019 on the first day of the FachPack trade fair in Nuremberg.
At a major industry ceremony on the first day of the fair, the German Packaging Institute presented the 2019 German Packaging Award to 34 of the best innovations in packaging.
The German Packaging Award is the largest European showcase for innovations in the field of packaging. Under the patronage of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, a jury of trade associations, companies, retail and research had examined and evaluated submissions from 14 countries. The award winners are automatically nominated for the WorldStar Award of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO).
The German Packaging Award also focuses on sustainability. According to the jury, the 34 winners of the German Packaging Award 2019 show the packaging “in perfect symbiosis with the packaged good, intelligent and creative ways to reduce packaging costs, use innovative technologies and materials, craftsmanship, storytelling and high-quality, attention-grabbing designs with a love of detail”. The 34 award-winning innovations include solutions made of corrugated board, cardboard and wood, plastic, glass and metal, for food, beverages, cosmetics, medicine, industrial goods, logistics and the consumer goods industry. There were winners in the categories sustainability, machine engineering, technology, software, presentation of goods, new material, logistics and material flow, economic efficiency, designing and finishing, functionality and convenience, and young talent.
According to Dr Bettina Horenburg, dvi board member, the importance of sustainability was evident at the German Packaging Award: “Sustainability is clearly a focus of current innovation activities. This applies to all competition categories, industries and materials. We see many remarkable innovations that use recycled materials, that ensure the recyclability of packaging with foresight and consistency, or that reduce the overall cost of packaging and materials. Solutions made of monomaterial are increasing rapidly. In addition, new materials and ways are being found to make packaging increasingly sustainable.”
