Custom-Fit Packages for Medion Electronics

Contract logistics provider van Eupen has developed a new logistics concept to optimize e-commerce processing for its customer Medion.

Contract logistics provider van Eupen is implementing a new logistics concept at its distribution center in Unna. As part of this new strategy, van Eupen is using a solution from the CVP range by Sparck Technologies (formerly Packaging by Quadient) for the automated packing of shipping cartons. A „CVP Impack“ was recently delivered, which produces up to 500 shipping cartons per hour, the company explains. The system will be used for electronics supplier Medion. Customers supplied from Unna receive their orders – from headsets to smartphones to laptops – in packages that fit precisely. Where possible for safety reasons, filling material is dispensed with to protect the environment.

„The issue of sustainability is playing an increasingly important role for us and our customers. Because the new solution allows us to save transport volumes and reduce the use of packaging material, we are getting a lot closer to our goals for reducing carbon dioxide emissions. In addition, thanks to automation, we can handle strong increases in demand without additional labor in the shipping area,“ emphasizes Dr. Michael Ott, Head of Logistics/Warehouse at van Eupen Logistik GmbH & Co. KG. According to the logistics expert, the decisive factors for purchasing the system were the performance parameters, the possible package dimensions, and the good price-performance ratio.

Corrugated board consumption decreases

„With our years of know-how, we have developed not only cost-saving but also sustainable solutions. Customized cartons made by a CVP Impack can significantly reduce both transport volumes and corrugated board consumption. In most cases, filling material can be dispensed with completely. We are very pleased that van Eupen is relying on our system to position itself sustainably for future growth. In terms of resource conservation and reduction of the carbon footprint, the contract logistics provider is thus exemplary in Germany,“ says Claus Weigel, International Senior Sales Manager of the DACH region at Sparck Technologies.

„Medion is always looking for new ways to conserve resources and optimize processes. We are therefore pleased that our logistics partner van Eupen is using Sparck Technologies‘ CVP Impack, a new solution that not only enables efficient automation of shipping processes, but also sustainable e-commerce processing. This significantly reduces the consumption of packaging materials and changes in demand can be met more easily thanks to the increased flexibility,“ says Tim Stoeppler, Director Operations and Analytics at Medion.
