Ikea Says Goodbye to Plastic

Ikea wants to stop using plastic in its sales packaging. Plastic packaging for new assortments is to be phased out by 2025. In the existing assortment, plastic packaging will be replaced by 2028. At the same time, the Swedish furniture retailer wants to push ahead with the development of innovative packaging solutions made primarily from renewable and recycled materials.

Henkel and Metro Advertise Plastic Bank

Consumer goods giant Henkel and wholesaler Metro are among the companies cooperating with Plastic Bank. The common goal is to further the establishment of a circular economy and at the same time help impoverished people in coastal regions. David Katz, founder and CEO of Plastic Bank, discussed the value of plastic with the two sustainability chiefs from Henkel and Metro in front of invited guests in Düsseldorf. This was the first time the Canadian had heard the German word “Kunststoff”.

Somat Dishwashing Liquid Bottles Made From Recycled Material

Together with Henkel, ALPLA has developed a new, recyclable packaging concept for the Düsseldorf-based manufacturer’s Somat gels. The dishwashing detergents are now offered in bottles made from up to 100 percent post-consumer recyclate (PCR). The cap of the Pro Nature variant also consists of half recycled material obtained from waste collection.
