Award for the Recyclate Forum

The Recyclate Forum initiated by the drugstore chain dm has been awarded the title “Project Sustainability 2019” by the German Council for Sustainable Development and the RENN network (Regional Network Zones for Sustainability Strategies).

As one of ten projects in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, the Recyclate Forum was selected as „Project Sustainability 2019“ by a jury of experts. The forum was founded in 2018 by dm Managing Director Sebastian Bayer. Since then, membership has grown to30, including dealers, manufacturers, waste disposal companies and packaging manufacturers.

„The award is a great incentive for us to continue working together on avoiding and reducting plastic packaging,“ explains Sebastian Bayer, initiator and spokesman of the Recyclate Forum and Managing Director of Marketing and Procurement at dm. On 25 July 2019, dm, Rossmann and Globus, the dealers in the forum, will launch an information campaign on the topic of separating recyclable materials. “Together we have great leverage and can sensitise millions of people to the subject of recycling,” says Rossmann Managing Director Raoul Rossmann. Petra Schäfer, Managing Director for Sales and Assortment Management at Globus SB-Warenhaus Holding, adds: “We have set ourselves the joint goals of increasing recycling ratios and using recycled materials more than before.”, and she goes on to say that the award also shows how much potential there is in cooperation between manufacturers, dealers, disposal companies and packaging manufacturers within the Recyclate Forum.

The projects were selected on the basis of theircontribution to sustainability objectives, strategic approach to sustainable development, (potential) impact, originality, networking, coherence and transformative character.

The Recyclate Forum

The Recyclate Forum is working together to raise consumer awareness of recycling, to achieve full classification of recyclable materials. In the long term, this will increase the recycling ratio and the proportion of recycled materials in products and packaging. In addition, the Forum aims to reduce packaging and to ensure that attention is given to recyclability in the creation of new packaging, so that this continues to be a resource.
