Change at the top of the confectionery association

The Executive Board of the Association of the German Confectionery Industry (Bundesverband der Deutschen Süßwarenindustrie e.V.) (BDSI) has appointed Dr Carsten Bernoth (43) as Director General with effect from 1 January 2020. He succeeds Klaus Reingen, who is retiring after 30 years with the BDSI.

Dr Carsten Bernoth has been with the BDSI since 2009, first as a manager and then as director. From 2009 to 2019 he was also Chairman of the confectionery export promotion organisation German Sweets e.V. Prior to this, the lawyer was a manager at the Brussels office of the Association of the German Dairy Industry.

Bastian Fassin, Chairman of the BDSI, paid tribute to the retiring Director General. “For decades, Klaus Reingen has played a key role in shaping the work of the BDSI and many of the association’s committees with his outstanding commitment, and successfully managed an established industry and employers‘ association with offices in Bonn, Berlin and Brussels.” Fassin noted that Dr Carsten Bernoth is a successor who, through his ten years at the BDSI, is well prepared to take over as Director General, with extensive experience in foreign trade and export, areas that are so important for the association, as well as comprehensive legal expertise on all aspects of confectionery, snacks and ice cream. “This ensures the necessary continuity at the top of the association.”
