SwissShrimp AG won over the audience and the jury of the Swiss Packaging Award with its self-developed cool box for shrimps.
At the 50th anniversary of the Swiss Packaging Award, an innovative reusable fresh box for shrimps won the most votes from the audience and was awarded the “Golden Egg” (audience prize). The Swiss company SwissShrimp AG had previously designed the box itself together with the German company Storopack GmbH and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland, “because so far there was no packaging on the market that met the high requirements for shipping fresh shrimps,” said the company.
The aim was to develop a reusable box for passive temperature-controlled courier shipping of fresh shrimps. The box was to serve as the outer packaging, allow only minor temperature fluctuations, and be user-friendly. According to SwissShrimp, it was also particularly important that the packaging design should reflect the company’s values and corporate design.
FachPack presents solutions on the subject of fresh goods– throughout the entire packaging process chain and everything associated with it, from materials to function and design to logistics and tracking. More information can be found here.
The result – after various project phases – was a modular, blue fresh box made of expanded polypropylene (EPP) with passive cooling by water-based cooling elements, which enable 24-hour cooling in the range of -2 to +2 degrees Centigrade (suitable for fish and seafood). The four packing trays in the stable box, each holding eight shrimps, are also easy to fill, stackable, and tight thanks to a closure seal, easy to clean, suitable for postal logistics and, above all, reusable.
